How to deal with problems related to maritime navigation ?

16th february 2023

Nowadays, the global coverage of mobile phone networks is increasing in residential areas. However, in forests, deserts and at sea, there are often very few networks or none at all. And because of this lack of networks, a number of problems have arisen during maritime navigation.

Some problems encountered at sea :

Delays in deliveries

At sea, deliveries by merchant ships are often delayed: more than 2/3 of container ships are affected.

Managing the flow of overloaded ports

With a delay of the carriers, it is possible that the ships arrive at the same time. Good management of port entries and exits is necessary.

Loss of containers at sea

According to The World Shipping Council, ICS, IGP&I, ECSA and ASA, the estimated number of containers lost at sea varies from 2,600 to over 10,000 each year. These containers are no longer found or are not found at all.

Accidents at sea

There are many accidents such as collisions with boats or jet skis.

Breakdowns at sea

Every year, ships have been reported missing and lost. The main causes are technical problems with the vessel and lack of supervision.

Problems encountered at ports :

Thefts of boats

Thefts of pleasure boats by organised gangs account for more than 1,200 stolen boats each year.

Engine thefts

Theft of engines from boats concerns several recreational fleets. We count more than 1,000 stolen engines every year.

Vague

HIoTee helps to solve these problems and provide connectivity in these white areas through satellite communication.

With HIoTee products, boats will be equipped with several measurement parameters to warn in case of breakdown, failure, alert in case of loss or theft, as well as real-time geolocation.

Examples of use cases with our HIoTee solutions:

Digitalising ports to facilitate entry and exit

Alerting in case of loss theft of boats or containers

Measuring temperature and vibration

Geolocate ships and seaports

Prevent accidents and collision

Predictive maintenance

Real-time routing and tracking

IoT plays a crucial role in the digitalisation of maritime navigation and helps to address the challenges it faces today. For this reason, HIoTee wants to support you in these changes.
